Project Details
The sculpture pays tribute to Jim Pattison and in celebration of the first anniversary of the opening of the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital. A small maquette sculpted by Ryan was scanned and then refined digitally to produce a clean model which could be scaled easily to its final size.
Special care was taken to duplicate Ryan's sculpting style and clay tooling marks to allow the artist to see the reproduction as it would look with its final clay finishing he would be applying to the sculpture. The sculpture was refined over several weeks which included the sculpting of cars, hotrods, trains and trucks which where modeled separately so they could be formed to fit the intricate highways bridges and railways which adorned the base of the sculpture. The final digital sculpture was milled in high density EPS foam and assembled over a metal frame so it could be coated and refined with clay by Ryan in preparation for bronze casting at an outside facility.
